An unfortunate end to what should have been a great relationship

My girlfriend decided to end our relationship. She couldn’t handle being in one while dealing with the pain and issues of her mother passing.

At first I was not very upset at all because I had in my mind that down the road she would get better and we would start over. But a week later I was more and more starting to want to move on. I believed she won’t recover anytime soon and she’s going to be forever damaged.

I just wanted a sense of understanding but I don’t knowi if I will ever get one.

It definitely is time to move on, to find someone new. It’s for the best.

So your Girlfriend’s Mother died…

Things were going great!  we had been together for 10 months, things really strong and a bright future ahead for us both.  Having spent the first weekend of December together I knew she was off to Ontario to visit her family because her mother was in having Knee Replacement surgery.  Should be a simple procedure right? Yes, for most people.

a few days into the week she gets a call saying her father’s having a very difficult time because his Wife isn’t waking up from surgery!  oh great..  now a simple Knee Surgery has turned into complications.  She flies out a few days early and I soon get messages explaining it all.

I Won’t bore you with the minor details but they found out that a blockage in her digestive system lead to some problems that came up.

Sadly, after some hope and promise, her mother died on Christmas Day.

My GF did not come home till near the end of January and she was clearly distraught!  I didn’t get to see her for another week and you could tell just by looking at her that this whole tragedy had been incredibly hard on her.  Mentally she was not very good and Physically it had taken it’s toll.

My thoughts are intense, complex and racing around.  I have dealt with this very well, I don’t really have answers for her and I try my best to be supportive and caring.  I am aware that it will be a long recovery and that grieving for a lost loved one is not a quick thing.

Still, I miss the days before it all happened.

I have no experience in losing anyone close to me before.  Sure there have been members of my family but I have never had a close bond with them so the feelings are sorrow are there but I quickly move on.

Tough times are ahead, there will be good days and the bad!  Not quite sure what to think really.

My Kia Forte: A Review

My Forte

Kia Forte SX 2010

This is my car, a Kia Forte SX 2010 Model.  I purchased it in October 2009 and I have already put on 42,000 KMs since then.

I would like to comment by saying overall it is a good car but they need to really improve in a few areas, especially when it comes to the kind of terrain I drive in.  First off the SX model has a number of differences from its EX and LX Models, like Sport suspension, 17 inch performance tires, Auto Environment (it keeps the temperature constant), steering wheel controls for the entertainment system the hands free Phone and Cruise Control, Moon roof, Fog lamps, as well as a bigger HP 170 engine 2.4L.

The one thing that I notice more than anything else is I CAN FEEL EVERYTHING!!!  every little hole in the road, bump, imperfection, rumble.. I feel it!  Smooth ride only occurs on the Highway when you are lucky enough to find a newly paved stretch of road!   YES it has great handling on curves and turns but when you hit a bump on the road or the decent sized pot hole, it bounces and you can feel the wheel in your hand moving.  Not exactly something you’d want to have to deal with day after day when the Spring comes and your city is plagued with pot holes.

I have already gone through one set of tires.  in the Winter of 2009-10 I somehow drove with something stuck in my front end and damaged my front drivers side tire.  And because in the winter the roads are crap, you cannot tell if there is a problem!  I did a tire rotation and immediately noticed there was an odd shake in my front end.

I had only had the vehicle for 5 months and I had a front end alignment problem!  SERIOUSLY?

So they did 2 alignments and finally determined that I needed new tires.  LOVELY…  took care of the tires in October.  Luckily I have not seen or felt anymore issues although they are due for a tire rotation again.

During the winter I had to deal with a foul egg smell with my heat.  I will have to have that looked at, fortunately it is warmer now so I don’t have the problem now but it will come back once the cold comes again.  I also have a fan that is making the soft squealing noise when they’re not at full, so that’ll need to be looked at too.

Everything else is good, no issues with transmission, engine issues, front suspension issues.  I’m happy otherwise but if I have to relocate to Kamloops BC, I may have to sell it and get an SUV type vehicle to deal with the weather they get in BC.

Just don’t expect it to be great for comfort and feel on the road, especially here in Edmonton.

Satellite Radio is a great feature it came with, especially now that I can control it all without taking my hands off the wheel.  It also has a port with its own special IPOD cable that I can connect my ITouch into and play all my music and have the titles and artists displayed on the screen!  Bluetooth for my cell phone is nice it has been quite useful!

The seats are heated in the front!  and the driver’s seat can rise up and down to accommodate any person, although I’m the only one who drives it.

Telescopic steering column is nice!  allows me to position myself exactly how I want to sit and not make me have to learn forward too much or feel uncomfortable in my vehicle.

So really, the only thing I can find about this vehicle that is a turn off is the suspension and feeling every single little thing on the road!  It’s great for long distance traveling and you can’t ever complain that you can’t get comfortable..   plus the gas mileage is very good!  a Full tank of Gas in the summer time in the City of Edmonton averaged about 470km.  This was travelling 73 km a day with some stopping while driving into the downtown.

I’ve only done 1 long distance trip with this vehicle, to Saskatchewan.  I got to Saskatoon on 1 tank and still had just over a quarter left to empty.

I even managed to survive an entire year before I tragically acquired a crack on the windshield!  Which to me was fantastic because my previous vehicle, (Nissan Versa) had no ability to take any rocks.  but that’s another story!

I am happy, I would have to give this car an overall 7.8 out of 10.    The major drawback is the front end suspension.

My thoughts on the 2011 Canadian Federal Election

So we are 2 days away from the 41st Federal election in the history of this country and there is so much uncertainty going around that nobody is sure what will be the end result.

With the polls that have been coming out since the announcement of the May 2nd 2011 Election date, suggestions of another Conservative Minority is likely.  The surprise however is how the NDP (New Democratic Party) has become more popular since they started.

Current projections are the Conservatives winning 140 seats, NDP 96, Liberals 57 and the Bloc only 15, which gives the Conservative Party a Minority Govt.  Not exactly what our Prime Minister Stephen Harper wants.  He of course would like a Majority Government with at least 155 seats and full control of Parliament.

Now I live in a Conservative hot bed, Alberta and I am pretty certain that all but 2, maybe 3 seats will go to them.  a good possibility the NDP will win 1 and the Liberals in Calgary another.  Saskatchewan is pure Conservative as well, which gives them about 44 seats between the two provinces.

I am very surprised myself that the NDP has gained so many points in the last few Polls, and they’re predicting they will for the first time become the official opposition.

Now I am a Liberal supporter, I vote Liberal because their platform is the best that I find out there.  NDP to me is too socialist and the Conservatives just never show me any signs that they will do good for this country.  Only other choice is the Green Party but unless they can truly make themselves a serious contender I’ll never vote for them.

I am not happy about the Current Attack ads the Conservatives have been pushing into the Media.  Sun Media, who has numerous newspapers all across this country are self confirmed Conservative Supporters and printed the two articles that have been harsh against both the Liberals and the NDP Party.

The first one was where the Sun had a photo where Michael Ignatieff (Leader of the Liberals) was apparently in Iraq when the US Military first invaded in 2003.  Despite the uncertainty of the picture, the Paper decided to print the article showing the picture and smearing his name in the mud.

And then Today’s Article about Jack Layton getting a Massage in Toronto, 1996.  Suddenly comes up today in an attempt to smear Layton’s image and destroy his good name.

http://www.torontosun.com/2011/04/29/layton-found-in-toronto-bawdy-house-former-cop

This was a great one.  a Pure attempt by someone in Toronto who wants to destroy Layton and his hopes in the Election.. the Toronto Sun and all Sun parties across the country printed the article late and was more than willing to help the Conservatives damage the NDP and their campaign.

Pathetic and selfish!  What the hell is wrong with some people?

there’s going out and campaigning and trying to make your pitch to get elected.  But you cannot go out there and smear a person’s name in the dirt in order to get an advantage!

It’s pathetic.

I really hope that the Conservative Party, if they do get elected get a small minority and have no choice but to make big changes and clean up their act!

Harper needs to go.

Unknown possibilities

so, I am in the midst of a change in my life. I recently lost my job and a day after the unfortunate loss I got a phone call from a gentleman in British Columbia, Canada about a job opportunity that is in Kamloops BC. If I were to get the job I would have to relocate from my current location in Edmonton, Alberta.

It’s a huge opportunity for myself but at the same time there is a lot that I would be leaving here and a lot of new possibilities.

I believe the two biggest fears are that I’d be leaving my family and my best friend. My friend, Kristy I have known for 7 years and we share a lot. being Eight hours away from her would be difficult to handle at first because she’s really all I have. Yes I have my family and they’re always here but I need to get away and start new. Kristy on the other hand, will be the hardest to get over. She obviously wouldn’t be around and I’d be alone.

Yes there are other people that I’d meet and get to know new friends. But I am not exactly Mr. Socialable! It would be one of the biggest things for myself to overcome and as hard as it would be for me I will do it.

But it’s the biggest chance I have. My life would grow so much by doing this (assuming that I get the job)

It is only an Eight hour drive from Kamloops.. as well it’s a 3 1/2 hour drive to Vancouver! so I can easily head to the Coast for a weekend getaway whenever I like! Independence is something I crave, but at what cost?

I won’t say no if they offer it, bottom line.
